RCMP diverted traffic on Highway 16 in both directions for several hours Monday morning to allow emergency personnel to attend to the fire at Redekop Manufacturing, a straw chopping operation just west of Saskatoon.
Highway traffic was diverted at 71st street and Highway 16 in the south and Highway 16 and the Dalmeny grid on the northwest side of the highway.
Warman RCMP Staff Sgt. Pat Zunte said up to a dozen officers worked to establish a perimeter and evacuated downwind residents. There were reports of hazardous chemicals at the site and officials didn’t want to take any chances, he said.
Zunte said there was a report of one minor injury, and the extent or cause of damage was unclear.
Zunte said there is no indication of any criminal activity, so the investigation will likely be handled by the Dalmeny fire department.
